Catherine Mix
From 1968-1972 I pursued a degree in fine metals at the University of Washington. For several years I continued forging and forming silver, gold and copper as well as making fine jewelry with cloisonné enameling on sterling silver.
These days, I paint in both watercolor and pastel. It is my goal to capture a singularly beautiful moment in time, such as dramatic sunlight illuminating the vast vistas of North Olympic Peninsula.
I paint for the same reason I garden; to revel in spectacular color and texture combinations.
I paint for the satisfaction of solving a complex problem.
I paint for joy of creating something unique, original and precious.
I hope you enjoy my work; please email me catherine@cuttinggarden.com or phone me 360-681-3099 with requests or questions. You can see more of my work at my websitewww.cuttinggarden.com
Larry McCaffrey
Sculptor
A working lifetime spent in the demanding craft of industrial sheet metal may not seem like the ideal avenue to a successful second career as a fine artist. But it’s worked out precisely that way for Larry McCaffrey.
For much of McCaffrey’s life, art was a back-burner curiosity that he never had time to fully explore. The traveling life of his trade - he worked around the West and as far east as Kentucky and Michigan - left little room for artistic pursuits.
Later, a dozen years spent cruising the West Coast aboard a sailboat with his wife, Darlene, provided many delights, but no space for artistic endeavor. But when the voyaging was done and the McCaffreys settled in Sequim, Washington, he found new work for his instincts.
From initial pieces in basic steel and wood, his abstract repertoire has expanded to stainless steel, cloth, paint and paper. He’s found equal satisfaction in shaping metal into graceful designs and in assembling mixed-media collages. Displaying in Sequim’s Blue Whole Gallery, McCaffrey has seen his work flow to the collections of a growing list of satisfied customers, including other artists.
The Gallery is open daily. Monday through Saturday 10:00 - 5:00.
Sundays 11:00 to 3:00.
