Jo Laudermilk
I started painting after I retired from Kock Industries where I had worked as a buyer. I had raised three children, and was the proud grandmother of four grandchildren. I had just been widowed after 46 years of marriage. I studied under Marjorie Klien in folk art but soon changed to oil painting where I have found my greatest interest. I have recieved significant instruction from several professional artists and studied with Kandy Tate for 10 years.
Tribute
Painting has provided me a release from the stresses of life. I thank God for giving me a love for painting and the talent to be successful. My family has a genetic kidney disease (Polycystic Kidney Disease) and I have lost my husband, my son, two brother-in-laws, and a niece to this disease. My granddaughter and two other family members now have PKD. With painting, I have been able to lose myself on the canvas and focus my energies on the positive things in my life. I paint for the love of painting and am so thrilled when someone honors my work with an award or by buying a painting.
Various board positions with Kansas Art Guild (Pres. 02), Wichita Oil Painters (V-Pres 04 thru 07). I have received over 100 awards at guild meetings and at various gallery exhibits throughout Kansas. I was accepted into the signature group “Kansas Academy of Oil Painters”, (President in 2004 - 05, Vice president in 2006 - 07).
