Ryoko Toyama
Ryoko Toyama
Through my paintings I am interpreting the world around me. This creative process begins with the end in mind. However, my work often takes its own course, producing the unexpected. I enjoy this spontaneity and magical transition.
In 1962 I moved from Japan to the U.S. After studying library science and linguistics, I worked at the Library of Congress, University of Oregon Library, Columbia University Libraries, and Libraries of Rutgers University. Throughout my librarian career, I have learned to appreciate human heritage, not bound by time or place. My husband Eckart and I moved to Sequim in 2004.
On the Olympic Peninsula in the State of Washington, U.S.A., I am in contact with many talented artists and excellent teachers. Especially, I am grateful to the late Robert Brown, a brilliant artist. From him I learned the power of simplicity.
Ryoko is represented at the Blue Whole Gallery and can be reached at (360) 681-0183. Her website is http://www.alvair.com/ryoko/rtbrochure.pdf
