Ed Crumley: SILVERSMYTHE
MEDIUM: STERLING SILVER AND SEMI-PRECIOUS STONES

My fascination with jewelry design and the fabrication of those designs began 40 years ago after being introduced to the cutting and polishing of semi-precious stones. I began specializing in stones from Oregon before opening up to pieces from around the globe.

Often the design process begins with finding a unique and exciting specimen that seems to ignite the creative flow of design possibilities. Sometimes inspiration arrives from a shape or texture found in nature. An idea for a form develops and its transformation into a piece of jewelry begins.

When we moved to Sequim in 2006 and set up a studio in our home I began to experiment with ideas and techniques.  The challenge of taking hard shapes and trying to create a softer and more organic look by hammering and shaping the metal is quite rewarding.
