“Rowed To Gold” is the theme at Blue Whole Gallery for the December First Friday Art Walk Dec 1st, 5-8pm. We are raising funds for the Joe Rantz House for homeless students by paying tribute to the “Boys in the Boat” film, directed by George Clooney. Proceeds from the sale of selected art will be donated by gallery artists to the Joe Rantz House.
The University of Washington rowing team won gold at the 1936 Olympics, beating Hitler’s team. Joe Rantz, one of the crew members, was a Sequim resident and was homeless during part of his high school years. Sequim High School Interact students and Sequim Sunrise Rotary are focusing on the issue of local homeless students and will be raising funds with community-promoted events. The gallery will accept cash and check donations for the Joe Rantz House during December on behalf of Sequim Sunrise Rotary Club and the high school’s Interact Club as they fundraise to provide housing for Sequim’s homeless students.
