The Blue Whole gallery has always been more than just a space to showcase art. It’s also a place where friendships flourish, creativity flows, and memories are made. Every artist shares a connection that goes beyond the walls of the gallery.
One of the most fun parts of the gallery is the process of hanging the artwork each month before the Sequim First Friday Artwalk. It’s a time when creativity takes center stage, not just in the art itself, but in how it’s displayed. Each piece is thoughtfully placed to complement others, creating a harmonious flow throughout the gallery.
The process also takes a village of artists to do the work! One person might be holding up a piece, deciding where it will shine the most. Others might be making sure the person on the ladder is safe! The conversations that happen during this process are a mix of artistic discussions, shared laughter, and the oft repeated phrase, “Does this look right here?” It’s a collaborative effort that brings out the best in everyone, including plenty of giggles.
Some of the most heartwarming moments at the gallery are the opportunities to connect with customers. Recently Jolene Sanborn had a wonderful visit with Ed and his daughter Cynthia. Jolene learned that Ed and his wife were teachers in SE Alaska for years. In the summer they would pack up and travel around Canada, camping and exploring as they went. They talked about all of the places he had been that she had also visited. All of the conversation started when he looked at a tile of hers titled, “Duck Point”, and said “That’s where I want to be!” My response was “Me too and I just got home from being there for 2 1/2 months!” A delightful man…we made each other’s day!
If you haven’t yet experienced the Blue Whole Gallery, we encourage you to stop by. We like to chat with our customers and meet new friends and art lovers!
Thanks for putting this out for all to see. We did have a great time. Some of these artists were also learning the process and becoming members of the hanging Committee. Thanks to all and to Doc Pangborn for his work with us. Hope to get him back some day and we can see his wonderful artwork and take advantage of his height, long arms, and willingness to work with us. We wish him well in his new projects.
