Every year the Blue Whole Gallery undergoes a transformation as the artists come together to participate in the annual clean-up effort. This tradition, which has been ongoing for many years, not only ensures the gallery remains pristine but also fosters a sense of community and collaboration among its participants.
This January event invites all contributing artist to lend a hand in refreshing the space. Tasks include repainting, dusting, repairing installations and deep-cleaning exhibit areas.
The atmosphere during the clean up is far from dull. Artist share snacks and laughter echoes around the gallery as friends collaborate on tasks. “The gallery shines bright when it gets a little TLC. We work hard, but we also make sure to have a lot of fun,” says artist Barbara Boerigter.
As the gallery prepares for the 2025 exhibition season, the contributions from this year’s clean-up will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact. It’s a reminder that art spaces thrive not only on creativity but also on the collective effort of those who cherish them. In the words of one participating artist, “We’re not just cleaning a gallery; we’re preserving a home for art.”
