Spotlight on Madeline Raynolds: December Student of the Month

The Blue Whole Gallery is delighted to honor Madeline Raynolds as our December Student of the Month—an emerging printmaker whose work is deeply rooted in the landscapes and wildlife of the Olympic Peninsula.

Madeline has called this region home for the past decade, finding endless inspiration in its shifting light, dramatic seasons, and the quiet presence of animals that inhabit the forests, shorelines, and tide flats. Her connection to place is evident in every print she creates.

Currently studying printmaking at Peninsula College, Madeline focuses on traditional intaglio processes such as etching and drypoint, as well as relief techniques including woodcuts and linocuts. She is especially drawn to the slow, tactile rhythm of working a plate—an approach that allows her to observe, interpret, and distill her experiences with the natural world.

“In my work,” Madeline shares, “my prints emerge through intaglio processes—etching and drypoint—where I’m compelled by the slow, tactile rhythm of working a plate. I use this process to observe and interpret the surrounding landscape and my intimate encounters with the animals within it. Each impression becomes a trace of presence, gesture, and the quiet intersections between myself and the natural world.”

When she’s not in the studio, Madeline can often be found wandering the beach with her dog, Jasper, soaking in the textures and patterns that later find their way into her compositions. She also channels her creativity into her own interior design business.

We invite you to visit the Blue Whole Gallery throughout December to experience Madeline’s work—prints that reflect a deep sensitivity to nature and a reverence for the subtle moments that connect us to it.
