For October, Blue Whole Gallery is pleased to feature Kai Nelson as our Student of the Month. A senior at Sequim High School, Kai has been creating art for as long as he can remember—from doodling on math papers to creating detailed ceramic sculptures.
Art is an important part of how Kai expresses himself. He is drawn to dark and gothic themes, with bats and Halloween among his favorite subjects. His creativity also extends beyond traditional art forms to interests such as hair color and nail design.
Kai works in a variety of mediums, but sculpture and ceramics are where he feels most at home. He enjoys taking a simple block of clay and turning it into something detailed and personal. For Kai, working with clay is both calming and rewarding. Focusing on the small details gives him a chance to relax and concentrate on the creative process.
After graduating from Sequim High School, Kai plans to continue his education at an art college. His long-term goal is to become a tattoo artist and body piercer, combining his interests in art, design, and self-expression in a creative career.
