The Blue Whole Gallery has chosen Kailah Blake as their March student of the month. Born into a family full of artists, Kailah started creating art when she was very young. When she was three years old, her mother would draw circles
for her to draw faces in with colored markers.
Since then, she has been experimenting with different styles and mediums. She started with markers and colored pencils, and created 2D art throughout childhood into early adolescence. In eighth grade she was introduced to digital art. Within the digital art medium, she was able to easily practice lighting and color theory.
Her focus with digital art shifted from characters and portraits to scenery and landscapes. Through this method she has been able to incorporate more interesting backgrounds to her artwork. Her artistic inspirations come from her travel experiences and places that she has been, including the beautiful scenery of the Pacific Northwest.

Title: Kamo River from Gojo Street
Medium: Gouache
This artwork showcases the view of Kamo River, located in Kailah’s birthplace of Kyoto, Japan. She travels there often with her mother’s side of the family. From walking Kailah’s grandparent’s Shiba Inu or cooling off in the water with her brother on a hot summer day, Kamo River is the setting of many pleasant memories.
Kailah’s art will be on display in the Blue Whole Gallery during the month of March.
