This May, the Blue Whole Gallery proudly features Reign Mayhem as our Student of the Month—a bold, expressive voice in contemporary art whose work refuses to be confined to the expected.

Reign is a queer, neurodivergent artist and activist whose practice is rooted in a deep need to express emotion and provoke thought. Their current collection, on display this month, centers around ceramics but radiates a diverse artistic sensibility that spans multiple mediums. Reign explores themes of duality, vulnerability, and absurdity, often weaving these elements into pieces that are as surreal as they are sincere.

Whether whimsical, unsettling, or evenstrange, each work invites the viewer into a conversation—often a challenging one. “I want people to feel something when they see my work—whether it’s discomfort, curiosity, or joy,” Reign says. “If it gets them thinking or laughing, then it’s done what it’s meant to.”
This fearless approach is exactly what makes Reign’s work so compelling. The tension between humor and seriousness, elegance and awkwardness, familiar forms and bizarre twists creates a powerful experience for anyone who engages with their pieces. In a world that often demands conformity, Reign chooses complexity, contradiction, and emotional honesty—and it shows.
We invite you to experience Reign Mayhem’s work at the Blue Whole Gallery throughout the month of May. Come with an open mind and leave with something stirred—be it a smile, a question, or a moment of reflection.
