Each month, the Blue Whole Gallery proudly highlights a young artist whose creativity and vision inspires our gallery artists. For the month of February, we celebrate Spencer Todd, a senior at Sequim High School, whose artistic journey embodies exploration, emotion, and an intuitive connection to form.
Spencer approaches their work with a philosophy grounded in diversity and maximalism. Their art unfolds gradually, driven by intuition rather than strict planning. This organic process allows the unexpected to surface, where clarity and uncertainty coexist beautifully on the canvas. As Spencer describes it, this approach gives voice to “the words the heart can only express through form.” Their paintings are maximalist abstractions, often showcasing interweaving patterns with a gentle appearance. Each piece invites viewers to discover personal meaning — to create their own connections within the artwork that Spencer crafts.
Spencer’s dedication to the arts has earned recognition both in and out of school. They’ve received commissions from members of the community, including a special piece commissioned by the assistant principal of Sequim High School — a testament to the impact and resonance of their work.
This February, the Blue Whole Gallery invites you to experience Spencer Todd’s world – a reflection of intuition, emotion, and artistic freedom.
